GO PARAHAWKING - THE ULTIMATE FLYING EXPERIENCE

Parahawking Assistant 2016/2017

Parahawking assistant to join the Parahawking team in Nepal for the 2016-2017 season.

We are a small team of highly experienced birds trainers and paragliders all involved in the running of The Parahawking Project, the Himalayan Raptor Rescue and vulture conservation projects. We are looking for an excellent and experienced bird of prey handler or trainer who can be versatile and muck in when needed - this is not a traditional falconers position nor are we looking for a paragliding pilot.

The role:

As a Parahawking team member, your role will be varied but your priorities are the welfare and maintenance of the birds. Daily duties will include food preparations, cleaning aviaries, weighing, general husbandry preparing and managing (from the ground) the parahawking flights.

You will also conduct the Bird of Prey Experiences. These are typically 2-3 hour sessions to a group of no more than 4 clients. The Bird of Prey Experience is a fun, informative and educational introduction to the training and welfare of birds of prey.

You will be responsible for giving presentations to small groups of mainly American and British tourists several times a week. These presentations form part of our contribution to the vital conservation work we do. They are typically no longer than 1 hour, they are informal and fun and a good opportunity to raise awareness and funds for our rescue and conservation projects.

Throughout the day, you will need to be readily available to speak to guests, answer their questions, take bookings and generally be informative and enthusiastic.

You will make regular fundraising visits accompanying small groups of tourists to the Vulture Safe Feeding Site that The Parahawking Project supports. You'll be required to write reports and collect data on vulture numbers. There will also be some admin duties such as updating social media sites, so you will need to be computer literate.

You will:

1. Have excellent communication skills.
2. Have a mature outlook towards working in a busy and disciplined environment.
3. Be highly motivated, fit, energetic and hard working. No slackers!
4. Be honest, trustworthy and a great team player.
5. Be sociable with a confident personality.
6. Have excellent bird handling skills, with a gentle hand and a compassionate nature. Some bird training experience is a bonus but not essential.
7. Have driving experience, preferably with a jeep off road.
8. Computer literate.
9. WILLING TO LEARN!

What you get:

1. A once in a life-time opportunity to do something truly unique in an exotic location.
2. Plenty of opportunities to fly with our birds as part of the early season training process.
3. A chance to work with an award winning bird trainer with over 30 years experience.
4. Get hands on experience with raptor rehabilitation and vulture conservation projects on a local level.
5. Explore Nepal with a chance to go on Safari, white water rafting or trekking.
6. Learn about Nepali cultures and traditions.

This is a paid position, your accommodation and some living expenses will also be covered whilst your salary will cover your other reasonable expenses while in Nepal (details will be provided to shortlisted candidates) You will cover your own airfare, visa costs and travel insurance.

You will need to available from the beginning of October 2016 till the end April 2017.
